OBJECTIVES

  1. Create a graphic for this annual sailing regatta that is specific to the host venue.

  2. Minimize printing costs.

INSPIRATION

The natural beauty of Glen Lake was the inspiration for this design. Glen Lake is known for its stunning blue water. The host of this event, the Glen Lake Yacht Club, is located at the base of Alligator Hill. This iconic landmark and these signature colors were used to tell a story about this location.

The minimal form of the passing sail echoes the simple design of the Butterfly sailboat.

Glen Lake, known for it's Caribbean-like waters, is represented with striking blue and turquoise tones that create a void in the form of Alligator Hill.

RESULTS

  1. The sky was rendered in deep blue and the water in bright turquoise. Together, these colors evoke an emotion that is familiar to people that have sailed on this water. The recognizable silhouette of Alligator Hill was used to create a sense of place and subtly reference the location of the Glen Lake Yacht Club.

  2. This graphic utilized an inexpensive, two-color printing process. By minimizing text, all information was contained within the border of this graphic, requiring printing in only one location on apparel items. This also eliminated reformatting for the vinyl decal application.
